Student Expectations

Barack Obama Dress Code

All students are required to follow the LAUSD Student Dress Code [Bulletin 2549.1] guidelines every day. Students’ clothing should be casual and comfortable for the purposes of health and warmth. It is always appropriate for students to present themselves well by dressing in an appropriate manner. Clothing that distracts from the instructional process and/or is unsafe, is prohibited. Examples include but are not limited to:

Tops: Grey Polo Shirt

Pants, Shorts: Dark color, black or navy blue

- Size appropriate clothing

- All students must meet school approved dress code guidelines and show respect for others

- The PE uniform may only be worn during PE time.

6th Grade: Yellow PE Uniform

- All shirts should be appropriately sized for your body type.

- All shirts must be tucked in at all times if oversized.

NON-Approved Shirts / Tops

Tank tops, spaghetti straps, strapless, midriff, racerback, or low-cut tops are not permitted. No pajamas are permitted.

-No midriff showing

-No exposed undergarments 

-No low-cut shirts/ blouses

-No tank tops

-No strapless shirts/ blouses

-No spaghetti straps

-No off-the-shoulder shirts or blouses

-No cut-out-designs

-No bare-back

-No sheer or mesh tops

-No Gang-related slogans, logos, patterns or symbols (e.g. Brand names, sports teams, or drug insignias)

-No oversized, ripped, torn, or large holes

-No clothing or jewelry that depicts any “gangstyle” writing; illegal activity; sexually-related or obscene gestures and materials; tobacco; drugs; alcohol; or words, pictures, or phrases that depict violence or intimidation or suggests defaming of persons or groups

Pants, Skirts, and Shorts

Shorts, jeans, and skirts must be appropriately sized and free of excessive holes. Torn clothing is up to administrative review. APPROVED Pants, Skirts, and Shorts are as follows:

- Black, Blue, or Charcoal jeans or walking shorts.

- All pants must be worn at the waist and the proper size for your body type.

- Shorts must follow the same requirements as pants.

- Skirt, short, or Capri pants

- Shorts must be long enough to extend to the student’s fingertips when the student is standing with their arms to their sides.

NON-Approved Pants, Skirts, and Shorts

- No pajama pants for Middle School Students

- No shorts/skirts more than 2 inches above the knee

- No pants that drag

- No sliced seams

- No sagging or low-riding shorts and pants

Shoes, Outerwear, Accessories

Safe, closed-toed shoes and closed-heel shoes must be worn at all times for safety. Slippers are not permitted. 

- Students must wear CLOSED TOE SHOES

- No open toe/heel shoes

- No flip flops

- No slippers/house shoes

- No heels taller than 1inch

- No jellies

Outerwear

- Jackets are permitted on the school campus.

- No hoods in class

- No sunglasses in class

- No trench coats

 

Accessories

- Barack Obama GPA and solid school colored beanies ONLY

- Barack Obama GPA. hats ONLY

Non-Approved Accessories:

 

- Belts may not contain logos, studs, rhinestones, chains, or initials. The belt buckle may not have designs, lighting, logos, rhinestones, etc…

- No hats or beanie caps may be worn inside school buildings. Hoods are not allowed indoors or in classrooms.

No sunglasses indoors unless prescribed by a physician.
