Principal's Message

Dear Obama Global Prep. Academy Family,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Obama Prep. Academy, home of the Eagles. I am excited to have been entrusted with leading Barack Obama Global Prep. Academy and STEAM School Academy this year. I am looking forward and committed to supporting students make Obama Prep. Academy a high achieving place of learning where students will become college and career prepared. I am focused on collaborating with you to build on rigor, relevance, resilience, results and most importantly, relationships.

Our students will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment of California and we must begin the preparation by focusing on the Common Core Standards.  If we all “row in the same direction” our progress will be amazing. I am expecting that our three vice principals, Mr. Barajas, Mr. Holden, and Mr. Jefferson will help us triangulate to improve our instruction, intervention and health and human services. We know students learn more when they are present and therefore, we strive to get 100% of our students attend school, at least 96% of the time.

Obama Prep. Academy now has a mandatory uniform policy for safety as well as academic discipline reasons. Our students must wear a gray shirt with a collar and black pants or shorts. We will be collecting previously used uniforms in good condition in the parent center in case your students are not in proper uniform.  Cell phones, IPads, and other electronic devices are not to be used during school hours.

I remind everyone that we need everyone’s help to improve Obama Prep. Academy and therefore, I set the following goals for our students who want to join the list of Renaissance, Honor Roll or Scholarship per semester or the year:

Renaissance Level Goals:   (will earn certificate and special parent assembly)

  1. Earn a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)- No D's, Fs, N's or U's
  2. Attend School 96% of the time
  3. Meet ELA or Math Standards on the SBAC
  4. Demonstrate the ‘Obama Way’ Behaviors (7 Habits)
  5. Wear the uniform 100% of the time

Honor Roll Level Goals: (will earn silver plaque, special parent assembly and trip to LA County Fair)

  1. Earn a 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  2. Attend School 96% of the time
  3. Meet ELA and Math Standards on the SBAC
  4. Demonstrate the ‘Obama Way’ Behaviors (7 Habits)
  5. Wear the uniform 100% of the time

Scholarship Honor Roll Goals include:

Students earn the Scholarship award when they meet the following goals for two semesters: (a $50 college 529B fund check, a gold plaque, special parent assembly, trip to LA County Fair, and Disneyland or Universal Studios)

  1. Earn a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  2. Attend School 100% of the time
  3. Meet ELA and Math standards on the SBAC
  4. Demonstrate the ‘Obama Way’ Behaviors (7 Habits)
  5. Wear the uniform 100% of the time

Let us have an amazing school year as we soar to success knowing that success is the only option! Go Eagles!

Respectfully,

Dr. Ortiz, Principal
